Just before the end of school term, June 2011, I completed Philippine First Aid's Pediatric 12 hour Adult, Infant, Child First Aid course with Richard Hunt. Four of the participants were parents of children who attend the British School Manila, all involved with Swimming and Football clubs at the school, some of us needed to update our previous First Aid, others completed this training for the very first time.

 I had done the First Aid training before, run by the rescue division of the Fire Brigade in Europe so I was able to compare, and the courses run by Philippine First Aid compare equally as well if not better, thoroughly professional, taught in a relaxed and easy to learn way, Richard certainly is an excellent teacher.

 Richard is doing an amazing job. The course material is quite extensive and everything was taught in a very clear manner and at a good pace. There was room for practice and this brings me to the next important factor, the material provided during the training is extremely well selected. There are practice resuscitation dummies for infant, child and adult size casualties. Hugely important as most of us are trained on adult dummies meaning that we would apply too much pressure during resuscitation and breathing. This is a huge advantage over other First Aid providers that I have attended.

We were faced with a “real life” emergency scenario (set up by Richard) where we had to deal with a selection of different wounds and other injuries, the skills that Richard taught to us prepared us to confidently provide the correct First Aid   .

I came out of this training with not only an updated certificate but also with the knowledge and confidence that I could help somebody while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. I highly recommend this First Aid course to other parents of school age children, to their Yayas and household helpers. All of us should make the time to attend such a course. It's only 12 hours to spare for something so important that teaches you the skills that could one day save someone’s life, maybe even your own child's. It is the right thing to do!
